Dog tricks, wave, circle & where is it?
Submitted by blondieContinuing with the teaching tricks to your dog articles (sit, down & stand; crawl, roll over & back; play dead, shake hands & beg; turn r/l, talk & quiet), here comes more and more funny tricks:
Teaching how to “wave”
Before you start teaching this one to your dog, make sure he dominates completly the “shake hands”.
While you are facing your dog, hold out your hand pretending that you are going to shake with him. As soon as he raises his paw, hide yor hand and say “wave”. You´ll have to be patient, and give him lots of treats in order to make him understand that only if he stays holding his paw he´ll recieve the prize.
Teaching “circle”
With the aid of your dog´s favourite treat, lead his nose around your body in order to make him complete a full circle around you. Remember to speak the order “circle while he is performing the trick. You may need to use more than one treat per circle at the beggining.
Teaching “Where is it?”
Put a treat in one hand, show it to your dog, and then close both of your hands, making two fists. Hold your fists in front of you, about six inches apart and say “Where is it?” Your dog will try to pry at your fists with his mouth to find the treat, but don’t open your hands. Wait until he tries to use his paw (he will if you wait long enough), let him touch the correct hand and then give him the treat. In some cases the dog never uses his paws to choose, never the less, it is still a beautiful trick even if he uses his mouth.
