Egiptians, cosmetics pioneers
Submitted by Alicinha
In ancient Egypt (3100 to 2907 BC) cosmetics were used on a daily basis, to the point that it were found in tombs. Male and female Egyptians used perfumed oils for a softskin. Besides they adorned the eyes with a dark green on the lower lid, and put in the upper eyelid kohl, a powder obtained from the soot, as the dramatic make-up that Elizabeth Taylor used and made famous in the movie Cleopatra. Was there someone that commercially manufactured and sold them? May be, the packages found are very similar to each other.
In addition, they also wipe their teeth with a mixture of powdered salt, pepper, mint leaves and iris flowers. Later, the Romans used some cosmetics to whiten the face and depilatories for hair removal.
