“Move it or lose” is the motto that the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) chose to invite women tomake exercise.
The idea is clear: to prevent the weakening of the bones to reduce the risk of broken bones. Exercise is essential for bone“ health, because an important part of bone strength were in it, says Dr. Jose Zanchetta, Latin America representative in the Committe of IOF.
Some Studies of Vertebral Osteoporosis (Lavos) in the cities of Brazil, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Colombia and Mexico shows that the 17% of women over 50 years of City of Buenos Aires presents one or more vertebral fractures. While the condition is asymptomatic, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men suffer it. Besides, it is estimated that between 30 and 50 per cent of women over 50 years old will suffer a fracture relatives with osteoroporosis during their life. Making exercise a person who leads a sedentary lifestyle may increase a 6% his osea capacity which reduces his risk of fractures.
