Music for life
Submitted by Penelope Marshall (view website)Music is a Universal language. Every culture in every era of human development has had some form of music. One of my favorite older movies is “What’s up Doc?” with Barbara Streisand and Ryan O’Neal. Howard Banister (Ryan) was a musicologist studying the early musical abilities of prehistoric man and believed that early melodies were made from mineral and rocks. Judy (Barbara) suggested conducting an avalanche in an effort to earn grant money for more serious study.
As funny as it sounds, I too believe minerals are musical. Have you heard of crystal healing bowls? They are made of ground quartz and will resonate a certain note when “played” very much like playing the rim of a wine glass. The most interesting part of this is that the producers of the bowls cannot guarantee what note the bowl will be until the product is completed. Just like all of nature, the quartz has it’s own unique characteristics and the outcome is always unique and individual.
All of the notes of the musical scale stimulate and correspond to our bodies chakra centers. When we listen to music our body responds on a physical level through hormone production, on an emotional level and on a spiritual level. This phenomenon makes music a wonderful choice for Chakra-Balancing. By understanding music’s powerful effect on our chakra centers we have the perfect tool to bring balance and harmony to our body, mind and spirit.
