Experts have concluded that nuts are the food that contains more antioxidants and therefore help to prevent many cardiovascular diseases, cancer or diabetes.

Nuts are above other foods that until now were considered the richest in these components, such as oranges, spinach, carrots or tomatoes.

Studies have indicated that nuts have 20.97 units of antioxidants per 100 grams, 20 times more than the amounts present in oranges (1.14), spinach (0.98), carrots (0.31 ) or tomatoes (0.31).

The first thing in the list is the hips:

The main antioxidant components in walnuts include vitamin E, polyphenols and trace elements, selenium, copper, zinc and magnesium, the latter could benefit endothelial function (innermost layer of blood vessels), and that would help prevent oxidative process that leads to heart disease.

Other studies have shown the benefits of nuts in the prevention of cardiovascular disease because of its content in omega-3 and omega-6 in up to 40 percent of its membership in one of these studies concluded that Mediterranean diet is effective if it included a handful of nuts in place of certain foods such as butter, whole milk, sausages and pastries (all rich in saturated fats are those that increase the levels of cholesterol).
