Tallow might just be the original skin smoother from our ancient ancestors because of its nourishing and skin regenerating qualities. What is Tallow?

Tallow is rendered Suet. Suet is the fat that surrounds the organs of a cow or deer, typically the kidneys. Once heated, suet will liquefy into gold colored oil that can easily be separated from the “nasties” that are originally intertwined throughout the suet (such as meat, ligaments).

Once separated, tallow is then purified by boiling the oil with water to essentially, “wash” the tallow clean and then filtered to remove fine impurities. Before being rendered, beef tallow is called Suet. Yes, that is the same “suet” you see advertised on bird feeders. Suet, and then tallow, has a plethora of benefits when consumed but also when applied to the skin or used in soaps.

 

A little Background on Tallow

Tallow and lard have been stigmatized as terrible, unhealthy and downright disgusting (conveniently by the same companies who use it within their products under hidden names) while in all reality, both are incredibly beneficial to the human body and have been used for centuries for anything from locomotive lubricant to bar soap.
